Hoping for a place in the GB Breast Cancer Survivors team, 2025
March 8th 2025.
On a beautiful spring weekend a party of keen paddlers from Pool of Life travelled to Silver Wing Lake, near Heathrow, for trials for the first team GB for breast cancer survivors.
This was for selection for the world championships to be held in Germany in July.

It was an amazing time. Initially we were weighed then allocated a place on either the big boat or small boat. We had some excellent coaching when we were on the boats and were filmed to assist with the team selection. We made friends with women from different clubs and there was an air of excitement.

Although we don’t know if we will be selected we all agreed it was an amazing experience that we were proud to be part of.
Update

Out of the forty seven paddlers who took part in the try-out event, twenty four were selected for team GB.
Five of those were Pool of Life ladies, Sonia, Sheila, Carol, Dai and Sue. Congratulations to them, what an amazing achievement.

History was being made as this was the first year that the IDBF World Championships has included a breast cancer survivor category.
The weather was not kind and varied from glorious sunshine to torrential rain, but it did not dampen the team’s spirits.

It was a very tough competition and a spectacular event. Team GB didn’t get placed in the topthree this time but there’s always next year.
