Pool of life Controlled Capsize
On Sunday, 3rd September, Pool of Life joined Amathus and Preston Dragons for a controlled capsize exercise.
As we gathered for a verbal rundown on what to do and what to avoid the sun shone down, perfect conditions for a capsize.

There were a few worried faces as the boats were loaded and the crew paddled away from Liverpool Watersports Centre.

Amathus’ Dave Bangs gave the boats a helping hand to capsize by rocking them and filling them with buckets of sea water.

Even though we were fully aware it would happen, it came as a shock to get wet.

As instructed, we stayed close to the boat until, with the help of a rope, we were back near dry land.

The last part involved climbing up a narrow ladder and back onto the pontoon. I’m not sure whether it was our legs or the ladder which was wobbly, but we were grateful for a helping hand up from fellow paddlers.

What better way to bail out the boats than a water fight!
A successful capsize done – all the Pool of Life members that took part are safe and sound.
